Quantitative Proof that You Probably Don’t Need an iPhone App... Yet

Stats

It’s no secret that mobile browsing and smartphone platforms like the iPhone and Google’s Nexus One are having a significant impact on how we access the internet. As new browser technologies and platforms pop up frequently, we as strategists and web developers are constantly challenged to adopt new approaches and development practices. Of course, as these new technologies become available, we also field all sorts of questions about interfacing with them. While we are always enthusiastic about developing new and exciting products for our clients, if your traffic indicates that your audience won’t care… then why waste the money?

Woman’s Day Magazine Recognizes Anne Mahlum

Anne Mahlum, the founder of O3 World’s non-profit partner Back on My Feet, was recently recognized by Woman’s Day Magazine as one of the nation’s Top 50 Women Who Are Changing the World. She was awarded the honor for changing the world by motivating the homeless. This is obviously a pretty tremendous feat, considering she is among others like Orpah, Katie Couric, Angelina Jolie and Billie Jean King, but it’s even more impressive that she is being honored at 29 years of age.

Drew Brees Tossing TDs for NFP

The National Football Post signed Drew Brees to a 3 year deal to be the front man for their soon to be launched Fantasy Football League. Let me start by saying Drew Brees can do NO wrong in my book. He is a stand up guy, he shuts up and plays well every Sunday during the season and most importantly, Brees was the QB and catalyst of my championship fantasy football team back in 2004. And he also netted me enough cash to buy groceries for two months…and we’re talking the good kind too…not the generic brand of Fruity Pebbles and the weird soap that doesn’t clean you.

Mos Def? Mos Definitely!

It is not everyday that we get to talk about cool, hip-hop legends wearing one of our client's gear, so when the opportunity is there we have to brag at least a little bit!

UNDRCRWN is coming out on top…of the fashion world that is. With a spot in the March 2009 issue of Vogue, UNDRCRWN is well represented by the multi-talented, rapper/actor Mos Def. Mos is seen sporting the Original Crew from the Spring 2009 Collection. Commonly referred to as a thinking man’s rapper, Mos might be the perfect fit for UNDRCRWN, who constantly have their finger on the pulse, and their eyes and ears to the streets.

Look Mom! We Made a Blanket Using HTML and Flash!

So maybe we didn’t actually utilize our needleworking skills, but we have been pretty busy using our digits on the keyboards over the last month for My Handwork Studio.

We have been working on creating downloads and more games for the needle arts and fashion community, as well as developing an e-commerce platform for their Kit of the Month Club. Working alongside Buzz Marketing Group, who has developed a marketing campaign to drive traffic to the site, we have incorporated a subscription model that enables kids, parents and educators to become more involved and invested in their projects through the site by getting exciting new products and materials sent to them each month. In honor of National Sewing Month, and to gear up for the holidays, we have been working on creating more interactive ways kids can learn and have fun with the site through needle arts.

Philly is Back ON!

Who says money doesn’t buy happiness? A group of private investors have purchased the wireless network from Earthlink, in an effort to put the initiative back on track. Mayor Michael Nutter and CEO of Wireless Philadelphia Greg Goldman spoke on the specifics of the deal during a press conference held at City Hall. Earthlink was never really able to effectively get over the road bumps regarding the network, as they suffered from a multitude of issues, including technical problems and a change in leadership and direction at the company. The new group, who has yet to officially settle on a company name, is assessing the current technical capabilities of the network, and what steps needs to be taken to finish the build-out and improve on its overall effectiveness. The model will be different from Earthlink’s in several ways, one of which will make WiFi access free in public places around Philly. Where's Rizzo now? Must be making another trip to the water cooler.

Bald Ball a Success!

The 4th Annual Bald Ball, which took place last week at DiBruno Brothers in Center City, not only raised cancer awareness for those who attended, but also raised a record setting amount of money for The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation. With Joe McMenamin from Groom and Pileggi on the Square stylists on hand to trim participant's locks, quite a bit of hair hit the floor as well, which included one gentleman who decided to chop off nearly 3 ft of his ponytail. His long locks, which he had been growing since 2001, are now in the hands of Locks of Love, to be put to use for cancer patients....which, in the end, is the purpose of the entire event after all.

NY Times explains (accurately) the Digital Divide

While it's no secret that the Wireless Philadelphia Initiative hasn't exactly gone according to plan, it's been the finger pointing, grandstanding and editorial inaccuracy within the city that has been the ultimate failure. Until the NY Times finally got it right.
