Internet 101 for the Agency formerly known as Gyro
Alright... let me start by saying we’re certainly not perfect. As an example, we’ve been working on rebuilding our new site for six months, and the content part alone (which is on me) has been in limbo for probably five of those six months. But, that still does not excuse the Agency formerly known as Gyro from their latest re-branding gaffe. Nearly everyone in the advertising community, and other rum drinkers, know of Gyro, who has been a successful agency for 20 years or so. They recently underwent a re-branding, with the new name Quaker City Mercantile, because they said it better reflects their “revolutionary methodology.” So whatever about the name… it kind of sucks, but who cares, it’s not the point. The bigger flaw in their efforts came in basic common sense… or lack there of.
If you change your name, and you change your identity, and you change your email address domain…why wouldn’t you change your website? Not only does their current website still exist, in its exact same form, old name and all... but their new url, www.qcmercantile.com is a parked site from network solutions. And their email domain changed June 1st. Now that’s kind of awkward don’t you think?
Now they said they would be launching a new site June 9th…and obviously this post is prior to June 9th... but... they must have heard a thing or two about a splash page (Or they could have simply asked one of the companies they outsource that kind of stuff to). Either way, QCM… WTF?
Update: the site is now linking back to the Gyro site.... with no mention of Quaker City Mercantile...
