Managing Your Content Management System

I’d say that 97% of people who contact us for a website request the ability to update their site with a Content Management System. It’s at the root of what we do, and we’ve developed our own and have experience with many others. No matter what CMS we’re building on, allowing people to update their website content, blog, promotional space, news items, etc. really puts marketing a business online in the website owner’s hands. The possibilities are endless.

Unfortunately, too often I’ve seen websites that launched two years ago still have the exact same content from launch on the homepage and throughout the site. Sometimes, there’s really no need to change the content, but more often than not a situation like this can cost the business money in the form of a new contract or customer, recurring business, and more. We’ve found that one of the most effective ways to build and maintain business is to show that the company is aware of industry developments, staying current, and growing. Using a CMS consistently can provide that feeling for current and potential business. A CMS also makes it easier to promote new offerings, promotions, and news, and it can help you form a community around your visitors as well.

The specific advantages each CMS are too numerous to list, and they’re unique to each platform, but some of the best features are universally available. For example, with so many companies turning their eyes (and budgets) to SEO these days, the convenience of managing SEO title tags, descriptions, and keywords is huge. So, why not utilize the features built in to your CMS to do it? Our research indicates that roughly 50% of the small businesses who have a CMS do not use it, or use it effectively. It’s a lot like buying a shiny new power tool and then leaving it on the shelf to gather dust. Even worse, the website doesn’t have fresh content for Google to index, which can negatively impact your search rankings, people are not kept up to date with what that company is doing, and potential deals and sales are lost. Almost universally, the websites that do well for their companies are updated - constantly. From blog posts to promotions, and news to social media feeds... the more you update your site, the more effective your online presence will be. When we launch a site and the owner uses their CMS correctly and consistently, it’s like Matt Stair’s father must have felt when he hit that bomb off the Dodgers in 2008. We’re ecstatic about it.

If we’re developing a site to help your business run more efficiently, we want to make your life easier. That’s the whole point, right? Whether we built your site or not, if you’ve got a question about CMS platforms or back end operations feel free to email us, we love this stuff... and if you need a custom addition to your CMS that will help your business processes... you can email us again, we love that stuff too.

Have a CMS that’s gathering dust? Contact us, we would love to help guide you on how to best utilize it for your business.

Website design can make or break your site. A site needs to be eye pleasing, not too busy, and functional. There also needs to be pertinent information, but not too much as in today’s world, people are too busy to spend time reading information
