Mobile Commerce Strategy 101 - Be Where I’m At

A few weeks ago I had interesting discussion with a young lady who managed eCommerce for a very reputable online-only retailer. She expressed to me that they were doing a significant amount of business to the tune of 10’s of millions of $ per year online and continued to experience double-digit percentage growth each year. Impressive.

What I Learned At Social Media Week

Social Media Week has come and gone again, and it seems like each year the event gets better and better. This year saw talks, panels, and workshops from some very talented folks, and much of the main content was available via Livestream as well. We’re living in the future here, folks.

Rule Number 4: Communicate

Before I became an intern at O3 World this summer, you could say I was social media agnostic. No Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace account, just a Linked In profile.

Today's Top Story: Content Still King

Last Sunday night, I saw my Facebook and Twitter feeds explode with posts from fellow patriotic Americans. What did I miss? Is today a holiday? As I soon learned, the death of Osama Bin Laden was the culprit behind all this chatter. And apparently I’m not the only one who found out via social media.

Who Owns Your Social Media?

Often when discussing social media with clients and prospective clients, it seems like ownership and management of social media frequently comes up as a concern. On the one hand, it’s important that all social channels maintain a clearly defined identity and voice; your customers and the other folks you’ll be engaging with in the social space want (and deserve) to know what they’re getting in to when they strike up a dialogue online. Whether you have a dedicated social media person or team, or the agency handles both the strategy and the communications themselves, consistency is key.

A Little Privacy Please?

Every time Facebook makes some sort of security update, like deciding to categorize users' location, interests and friends as public information, people get upset. When Google got everyone Buzzed, privacy leaders from other countries chimed in with their concerns. And last month, a group of US senators even asked the FTC to step in on internet privacy practices of social media sites. Clearly, everyone likes their privacy lately.

Can Social Media Hurt Your Chances at a Job?

If you’re one of the 3 people following me on Twitter, you’d see that I’m an avid, and frustrated Philadelphia sports fan. You’d also probably pick up on the fact that I’m in a darts league…and that I’ve gotten off to a slow start this season. And, if you’re really perceptive, you can probably pick up on the fact that I can be somewhat sarcastic at times.

Santa Claus is Now Following Me on Twitter

Santa Clause and Twitter

I know that Santa sees me when I’m sleeping, and he knows when I’m awake. But now, if I happen to mention my latest weekend of debauchery on my Twitter account, he knows all about that too. I didn’t know Old St. Nick was that tech savvy, but he’s even gone as far as to separate the naughty from the nice using the new ‘Lists’ feature.

Phillies Clinch, MLB Tweets Me

MLB Tweets

As I lifted my 5th beer in grand exultation celebrating a third straight Phillies division championship, I was overwhelmed by the onslaught of messages I received from MLB making me aware of this fact.

Alright, so I’m a nerd. My email and Twitter account all happened to be open at this point. If my phone was on, I’m sure it would have vibrated its way across the room. As Ryan Howard touched first for the final out, I pumped my fist with one hand and tweeted with the other. I’m sure this is a sign of the impending apocalypse. But who cares… the Phillies are playing in October, people!
